Take It All In Before They're All Gone

"We loved you so much that we delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us...For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory."                                                      1 Thessalonians 2:8,11 When we were younger and before we had children, we would often hear people say, "You don't realize how fast time flies until you have children!"  You know what?  They were right.

Maybe it's because the days are measured first in diaper changes and feedings, then school times, bus schedules and after school activities, then sports seasons and concerts on the calendar and finally, college application deadlines and holidays when they're home from college.  It does indeed go by in the blink of an eye it seems and before you know it, the house is empty and you're waiting for the phone to ring so you can hear their voice and make sure that life is treating them well in your absence...

What is so astounding to me is how quickly we forgot the minute particulars...The years tend to dull our memories and only the really remarkable highlights stand out in vivid color and detail. The other minutiae blur into months and years of flurry and activity...

Our cheer as parents became "Be engaged! B-e-E-n-g-a-g-e-d!" and involved in the lives of our kids; because you don't realize how fast time flies.  Our motto was: take it all before they're all gone--we know we'll never regret it!
